Standardized Testing

Standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT are one of several factors colleges and universities may consider when reviewing applications. While scores are never the only measure of a student’s readiness for college, they provide colleges with a common data point that can be used alongside a student’s grade-point average, course rigor, activities, essays and other application materials.

Most four-year colleges and universities accept either the ACT or SAT, and students are encouraged to choose the test that best fits their strengths. Many students take one or both exams more than once, and it is important to leave enough time to retake the test before submitting college applications. Students can begin testing whenever they feel prepared, but most students take their first ACT or SAT no later than the spring of their junior year.

Brentwood High School offers one ACT exam during the school day for all juniors, with the cost covered by the district. Additional ACT or SAT tests taken outside of school require registration and payment by the student or family.

Students signing up to take the ACT or SAT can use code 260-345 to indicate that they attend Brentwood High School, ensuring their test scores are sent to the school.
