Course Selection and Schedule Planning
Each year, Brentwood High School students take part in a structured course selection process designed to help them explore their interests, plan for the future and stay on track for graduation. Our counselors guide students through reviewing their academic progress, understanding graduation requirements and building a balanced schedule that supports both their goals and overall well-being. Students receive direct instruction during the school day about how to prepare for course registration and how to submit their requests.
During the enrollment window, counselors meet with students to review transcripts, discuss academic strengths and interests, and answer questions about required and elective coursework. Students then enter their course requests electronically through Infinite Campus, where families can review selections at home. Because the master schedule is built around student interest and enrollment demand, we encourage students to choose courses — and alternates — thoughtfully.
After students submit their requests, counselors carefully review each schedule to ensure graduation requirements are met and that students are enrolled in the minimum number of courses needed to maintain full-time status and participate in activities. While every effort is made to accommodate student preferences, some courses require a minimum enrollment or may become full. In those cases, alternates help ensure students still receive a complete and meaningful schedule.
Once schedules are finalized, students receive a copy at the end of the school year and again during back-to-school registration. Limited schedule changes may be requested during the first two A-days and two B-days of each semester, and counselors work closely with students to discuss available options. Requests based solely on teacher or hour preference cannot be honored, and any changes after the deadline require administrative approval.
Brentwood High School is committed to helping every student build a personalized, engaging path through high school. The course selection process is designed to empower students to explore new interests, challenge themselves academically and create a schedule that supports their goals — both now and beyond graduation.
