Brentwood High School senior Helen Gwynn has been named the school’s 2026 Scholar-Athlete by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, joining an elite group of student-athletes recognized for excellence in academics, athletics and leadership.

A three-year leader in the Brentwood wrestling program, Gwynn served as a team captain for two years and earned numerous team honors throughout her high school career. She received the Eagle Excellence Award four times, recognizing outstanding character, academics and athletic achievement, and earned the Heart and Desire Award twice as one of the program’s hardest-working athletes.

In the classroom, Gwynn compiled a 4.22 weighted grade-point average while challenging herself through a rigorous course load that included Advanced Placement and dual-credit coursework. She is an officer in the National Honor Society, a member of the Spanish Honor Society, earned the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish and was one of four students in the Brentwood High School Class of 2026 to earn recognition as a Missouri Bright Flight Scholar.

Beyond academics and athletics, Gwynn has been actively involved in student life through Student Council, Art Club, set design productions, club wrestling and weightlifting. Her artistic talents were also recognized when she was selected to participate in the St. Louis Artists Guild’s 2025 Young Artists Showcase.

Gwynn plans to attend the University of Missouri, where she will study psychology and social work. Her long-term goal is to support others through a career in counseling or psychology while continuing to serve her community.

“I hope to be some kind of psychologist or counselor,” Gwynn said. “In my personal life, I want to always be looking for ways to support my community and take care of others.”

Each year, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch honors one senior from every participating high school in the region as part of its Scholar-Athlete program. Recipients are selected by their schools based on academic achievement, athletic performance, leadership and service.
